What I'm Reading

For The Love of the Game by Michael Shaara

Because Killer Angels kicked undiluted Ass and this book is no different. A slim little thing I’m already halfway done at the time of this writing and I only started 30 minutes ago. What can I say. Dude’s prolific. This was the perfect way to ring out the start to baseball season and, honestly if you like baseball in the slightest or, hell, even if you don’t you owe it to yourself to give this one a go. It’s short, sweet, and neat. What more can you want?

Watchmen

Apparently this graphic novel is almost mandatory reading in colleges now but it sure as shit wasn’t when I was there. I never saw the movie either and so, being entirely unfamiliar with the source material, I decided to finally pick it up. This is a ground breaking graphic novel by all definitions, mentioned with the same reverence with the likes of Maus so while I’m not exactly a graphic novel or comic afficionado I hope to be pleasantly surprised. Flipping through the pages I can say there is some gorgeous artwork so that at least should be fun. Eye candy aside here’s hoping the story holds up its end of the bargain.

The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson

I’ve been avoiding this one for too long, dear reader. I don’t know why. Hometown envy? Fear of starting yet another thick boi series where the mass market paperback can be used as an offensive weapon in a pinch? Well, no more! It ends today! Er, well, that is as soon as I crack this sucker open. After much cajoling a friend of mine finally got me to take the plunge and start this allegedly venerable series (and having some other incentives to do so doesn’t hurt but we’ll touch on that later). Will it live up to the hype? Will I be annoyed by all things “spren?” One way to find out!

The Traitor by Anthony Ryan

This is one of those bittersweet books, dear reader. A series I discovered on a whim and have thoroughly enjoyed, this is (I believe) the final entry. The Last Dance. The One For All The Marbles. And -woof!- the amount of foreshadowing that has been laid in the preceding novels makes it seem like this may not necessarily be the happiest of endings. Will it stick the landing or is it going to pull a Season 8 of Game of Thrones? Time will tell.

Thats quite the stacked lineup I’ll not lie, but feel free to toss me another down below or via email, dear reader (a full 3/4 on this list come via recommendation and one can never have too many books…)
