Progress Update

Welp it’s that time once again, dear reader. The time where we check in one each other and make sure I’ve not consumed my time twiddling thumbs or eating paste.

So how are things progressing?

Good question.

I’m so glad you asked (you’re always so thoughtful!).

Progress has been slowed down a smidge this go round as the Round Two curse (on my end anyway) has struck again, ensuring my manuscript has yet again bestowed more newborns, employment offers, housing and/or marriages to my betas.

Words cannot express how odd a feeling it is to be so elated for someone yet so distraught at knowing their contributions to this little project just got sidelined into oblivion. Bittersweet may be the best word for it but, I mean really, what’re you gonna do tell people to pause their entire lives?

Not likely!

Truth be told these speedbumps have kind of been a blessing in disguise the past couple of months as I’ve been busy personally.

How busy exactly? Well for starters I genuinely thought it was still May only to find myself staring down Fourth of July weekend and wondering what year it is.

I’m no stranger to the occasional road trip but I’ve been doing an absurd amount of travelling recently including ball trips, destination weddings, graduation parties, graduations, helping various people move, and paying my respects on memorial day to the point where it genuinely felt weird to not be on the road for eight to twelve hours every couple days. Add to that getting the absolute shit kicked out of me at work, joining an unofficial book club at best of an old friend of mine and attempting to have something resembling a social life (dare I say romance) and, well, it hasn’t left me with a whole lot of time to spare.

That doesn’t mean I’ve been idle however!

I’ve begun printing and organizing the evaluations for Round Two to try and better visualize the feedback and while I may end up needing a second binder to hold them all results look good so far. I’ve also kept things moving on some more in depth editing and “macro” elements of storytelling, ironing out some plot points further down the road to make sure what I’ve written actually makes sense.

Still, I find myself almost thankful for the current distractions of my betas as, while some of them have paused, others saw I was busy and opted to take on more work and are cranking things out as we speak. With any luck I’ll be able to settle things down on my end before they require an exit interview and get *those* settled before those betas that are currently paused go live again.

I’d rather be busy than bored after all and, hey, let’s be honest: the chaos is part of the fun.

So that’s where I’m at dear reader: not so much treading water as doggy paddling (with verve!).

Hoping things settled down soon but let’s just say fall can’t get here fast enough!

Until next time.
