Happy Thanksgiving!
Ah, turkey day: the day diets die ‘cuz there’s pumpkin in the pie.
And that’s nothing to say about the mashed potatoes!
In all seriousness, I’ve always found Thanksgiving a curious holiday, dear reader. Sandwiched between the wonderful exuberance of Halloween and the coziness of Christmas, Thanksgiving always struck me as a bit of a forgotten holiday, the lame duck out of the Holiday trifecta at the end of the year….or should I say “turkey”…turducken? Whatever, you know what I mean.
The point is I’ve always pitied Thanksgiving, truth be told. It lacks the pomp of its bretheren and is known less for fraternity and more for destroying waistlines and awkward talks about politics around the dinner table.
And that’s a shame, dear reader, as the spirit of Thanksgiving is one I’ve always appreciated (along with the food).
People need a reminder of all the good things in their lives; to appreciate what they have instead of focusing on what they don’t. Sure into every life a little rain must fall but to every cloud there exists a silver lining and in today’s day and age it’s all too easy to focus on the negativity of the world while being blinded to the innumerable blessings that have fallen into your own lap.
I’ve done it myself. This year has had it’s highs and it has most certainly has its lows so far as I’m concerned, but at the end of they day….in the here and now, well, we’ve got it pretty good, don’t we?
So here’s to you and yours, dear reader. May you pause in your inhalation of guinea fowl only long enough to enjoy some good conversation.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Until next time.
