A Little Quoting Never Hurt Anyone

You only learn to be a better writer by actually writing – Doris Lessing

You can’t fix something that doesn’t exist! The sooner you get to writing the sooner you can get to editing and trust me you’re going to need some time to slay that particular beast.

It’s not just about that coveted elimination of the blank page, either. The more you actually commit to throwing some words out into the world the more you’ll begin to get a rhythm as to the proper amounts of inflection, descriptors, and narration. If you are paying attention to what you’re writing (which I’d like to think that you are) then you’ll also begin to pick up on the strengths and weaknesses of your own technique. Of course, most of us will also swiftly confirm our need for a dictionary, thesaurus, and a highlighter to mark the sections that need some work but, hey, even the pros need to revisit the basics now and again, right?

Just remember: technique improves with practice and practice, in this case, is performing the act itself….kind of like another certain act of the intimate variety that, also like writing, one should generally perform in private so as to achieve maximum focus and results, especially if working with a partner.

(You are ever so welcome for that comparison and/or mental image)

Now what are you waiting for? Get writing!
